Cherie Appleby-Lannan from the staff of Outdoor Research managed to raise donations worth more than $64,000 for the relief of the victims of Hurricane Sandy, which hit the Northeast of the U.S. some weeks ago. With the support of the Point Breeze Fire Department in Queens, New York, the brand itself shipped new, warm outdoor clothing worth $45,000 to the area, where a fire destroyed more than 90 homes. Additional gear worth $15,000 came in after Appleby-Lannan worked with contacts at the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA). On top of that, Outdoor Research called on its customers to donate $2 with every order they placed. This initiative brought $4,648 to the benefit of the efforts of the American Red Cross to ease the situation of Sandy's victims in the region.
