Five outdoor companies – Darn Tough, Nemo Equipment, Leki, Osprey Packs and Vasque – have decided to team up to form a joint Ambassador Program for hikers on the famous Appalachian Trail in the U.S. They have called on so-called “thru-hikers” to apply for eligibility as candidates for the program. The winners, who will be selected on Jan. 14, will be given educational sessions and provided with all kinds of products by the five sponsors before they hit the trail during the Appalachian Trail Days, which tend to attract some 20,000 hikers and other types of tourists to Damascus, Virginia every year in mid-May. They will be given VIP treatment before and during the hike. The five firms plan to expand their Ambassador Program to other long-distance trails around the U.S. in the next years.
