GoPro has just announced a new open API for third-party developers/apps called Open GoPro that will allow them to integrate with their cameras, starting with the GoPro Hero9. The API (Application Programming Interface) enables a range of functions via wireless interfaces, including control as well as media transfer. With Open GoPro, developers have API access to the following HERO9 Black features: wireless connectivity, camera command and control, camera status, camera preview, and SD card media check and transfer. Demos and sample code are available at GoPro.com/OpenGoPro. There is no application or approval process required, which means the API is not “hidden” behind a corporate partnership, but anyone can get to work creating apps that integrate with it.
