Montane, the British brand of high-end outdoor apparel, has agreed to be a major sponsor of The Coldest Journey Expedition, supporting a famous explorer, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, and his team with customized sledge jackets and equipment that were developed by Montane's design team over six months. Sir Ranulph will be the first human ever to try to cross Antarctica on foot during the Antarctic winter, facing temperatures as low as -70 degrees centigrade. The Coldest Journey is the largest polar expedition leaving from the U.K. in over 30 years. The expedition began on Dec. 7, when the expedition ship, Agulhas, left London to head for the Southern Hemisphere. Another supporter of the adventure from the outdoor industry is Bridgedale, the British maker of sports socks.
