Pentland Brands, the parent company of Berghaus, Ellesse, Speedo and other brands, has been recognized as one of the best places to work in the U.K., ranking higher than any other sports company in the country. It took the 16th spot on the list established annually by the Great Place to Work Institute UK, and it was the only fashion and outdoor business to make the list this year. Pentland, which participated in the program for the first time, would have probably won such a high ranking earlier if it had competed before. The institute has looked at working conditions at all the sites where the group operates in the U.K., which employ 1,000 people, nearly half of them at Pentland's head office in London. The work environment can be described as enthusiastic, fun and inclusive. Two of our editors have personally witnessed the fact that this company, owned by the Rubin family, treats its staff to great wellness facilities and perks. It encourages a healthy work/life balance in many ways. A recent U.K. government study shows that organizations that understand the importance of employee engagement stand to gain 18 percent more productivity and 12 percent more customer loyalty.
