W. L. Gore has announced that Alex Megos has joined its team of athletes as a global Gore-Tex ambassador. The world-class climber, 24, who was born and raised in Germany, started climbing when he was only six years old. Most recently, he has completed “The Finnish Line” V15/16 in Rocklands, South Africa, which is considered one of the hardest boulder obstacles in the world. In 2013, he climbed the Estado Critico in Siurana, Spain, becoming the first person to on-sight climb – on the first try without prior knowledge of the climb – a route graded 9a/5.14d in difficulty. He has since then raised the bar further, climbing a route graded 9b/5.15b. Megos has also climbed the Action Directe, a famously difficult climb in Germany's Frankenjura. As a competition climber, he reached the second place in the European Bouldering Championships and Lead World Cup in Kranj, in 2017.
