Columbia Sportswear has decided to reopen 30 of its branded brick-and-mortar stores in ten U.S. states on May 15, bringing back more than 250 of its furloughed retail employees. All stores will give priority to providing a safe environment for customers and employees. Among the measures being taken are the requirement for workers to wear face masks, the adjustment of store layouts for social distancing, and the 24-hour delay in re-offering garments that were tried on in changing rooms. In addition, employees will regularly clean high touch points and cashiers will wear gloves. This measure follows Columbia’s first reopening of a brand store in the state of Nebraska last week. The company expects to open more of its U.S. stores in the coming months under the guidance of state and local government and communities, after ensuring that strict health and safety standards can be maintained.
