Sports Direct International (SDI), the British sports retailer and brand owner, is continuing to expand its network in eastern Europe: After store openings and acquisitions in Slovenia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, SDI has just opened two stores in Poland. One of them is in the Targowek Ikea retail park in Warsaw, while the second is in the south of the country near Gliwice in the huge Europa Centralna retail park. By far the largest sports retailer in the U.K., SDI has set itself a target to move into all countries in the European Union. It is involved in the outdoor market through the ownership of Karrimor and last month it rescued Gelert, the British brand of camping equipment. SDI also owns Field & Trek, a specialist retail format in the U.K.
