German companies Vaude and BASF are cooperating to create a more effective product cycle for the outdoor brand’s products. The first of these is a pair of trekking pants made from recycled car tires. The pants are part of the Vaude SS 2022 collection and will be on sale from March 2022. Under the brand name Ultramid® Ccycled™, BASF markets the newly created Polyamide 6 fibers, which are produced with less than half the average CO2 emissions of comparable polyamide fibers. In the BASF ChemCycling chemical recycling project, the company uses plastic waste and used car tires. In a thermochemical process, basic chemicals derived from these plastics are used to produce filaments.
