Buff, the Catalan headwear company, has been certified by the Spanish association Forética as complying with SGE 21, the European standard for corporate social responsibility. To qualify, Buff underwent an audit by SGS, an international certification firm that operates on Forética's behalf and is present in about 120 countries. To qualify, Buff had to set up policies on equality and work-life balance, regularly evaluate its labor conditions, enact a code of conduct and have a policy to combat corruption, among other things. Many such measures are included in Buff's Do More Now program for corporate sustainability, which was designed to meet the criteria. The program also includes the development of environmentally sound manufacturing techniques, the development of fabrics with fibers made of recycled plastic, the purchase of merino wools only from suppliers that care properly for their sheep, and corporate participation in local, national and international projects to protect the environment.
