The Textiles Circularity Centre (TCC), one of five circular economy centers funded by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Interdisciplinary Circular Economy Centres Programme, opened its doors on May 24. The center aims to turn post-consumer textiles, crop residues and household waste into renewable materials for use in textiles. In November 2020, the U.K. government provided the Royal College of Art (RCA)-led consortium that has opened the TCC with a £5.4 million (€6.3m-$7.7m) grant, distributed through 2024, to promote a more circular economy that supports products made in the U.K. The TCC is led by RCA’s professor Sharon Baurley with professor Phil Purnell from the University of Leeds as co-director, working in collaboration with scientists and researchers from Cranfield University, University of Cambridge, University College London, University of Manchester and University of York, and with a wide range of partners from the industry, the public sector and the NGO sector.
