Vaude is one of the first German companies to receive the new Grüner Knopf textile certification seal for a majority of its product range. The “Green Button” (Grüner Knopf) for sustainable textiles was officially launched in Berlin on Sept. 9 by the German Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, Gerd Müller, together with Vaude's chief executive, Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, and other personalities. The initiative is to ensure that consumers can purchase clothing that has come through a sustainable supply chain, involving compliance with aspects such as a minimum wage for workers, a ban on child labor and the respect of certain environmental standards in the use of chemicals and air pollutants. The program has been launched with 27 companies that have successfully passed the Green Button's requirements. Vaude is also a founding member of the Partnership for Sustainable Textiles.
