Vivobarefoot is releasing the Primus Bio, a re-engineered version of its Primus Lite model featuring a sole made entirely from DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products' Susterra material. Susterra also forms 70 percent of the shoe's upper. Susterra is a petroleum-free product derived from the glucose from field corn. It can be used for multiple polyurethane applications, including footwear, waterproof films and artificial materials and coatings, among others. According to Vivobarefoot, the addition of Susterra offers greater flexibility in the cold and resistance to abrasion, alongside with a performance level in line or better than petroleum-based soles.
