Henk Noback, chief executive officer at Morakniv, a Swedish manufacturer of knives and member of the Scandinavian Outdoor Group (SOG), is leaving the company at his own request. To ensure a smooth transition with his successor, he will keep his current position for the time being. Morakniv has not yet appointed a new chief executive.
The brand has made a name for itself with its floating and lightweight outdoor knife Floating Rope Knife. It was named the overall winner of the Scandinavian Outdoor Awards in July 2018. Another product, the Eldris knife, already won the SOG’s Hardware Award in July 2016.
Morakniv, which celebrates its 130th anniversary next year, generates 47 percent of its sales in the outdoor segment, which is a relatively new segment for the company as it only started selling to the outdoor market 12 years ago. Other important segments are the craft/carpentry and kitchen equipment. About 76 percent of Morakniv’s products are exported. The most important export markets are the U.S., Japan, Eastern Europe and the U.K.
During the Covid-19 crisis, Morakniv kept its own production site in Mora, Sweden, open and produced about 32 percent more than before the pandemic. As other manufacturers were unable to deliver, Morakniv won several new clients during that time. The company manufactures about 22,000 to 24,000 knives per day or 4.2 million knives per year at its own production plant and currently employs a total of 174 people.
