Neptune Mountaineering has almost completed the redesign of the museum created by the company's founder, Gary Neptune, housed within its 15,000-square-foot store at 633 South Broadway, Boulder, Colorado, in the Table Mesa shopping center. A formal unveiling of the remodeled museum is expected on September 30. The larger part of the display is a timeline of technical rock and ice climbing gear that date back 200 years. The museum also houses a large collection of photographs. Neptune has been collecting the pieces for the past 40 years. Founded in 1973, Neptune Mountaineering was bought by Austin-based Backwoods, an outdoor gear and apparel retailer, at the beginning of 2013. Gary Neptune, the original founder, still owns and maintains the museum himself. In the beginning, Neptune Mountaineering specialized in repair of climbing and ski boots and axes as well as installing edges on wooden skis. Today the store sells climbing, backpacking and back-country ski equipment and gear.
