Osprey Europe has signed a sponsorship deal with Nirmal “Nims” Purja, a mountain guide and former member of the British Special Forces who is now trying to break a record in mountaineering. Purja's “Project Possible” is an attempt to scale in seven months all 14 of the world's peaks that exceed 8,000 meters. The standing record, set by Jerzy Kukuczka, is seven years, 11 months and 14 days. Phase one of Purja's challenge, the climb of Mount Everest, was completed on May 22. On his way up, Purja carried an Aether Pro 70 backpack and a ThruDark summit suit. Jay Morton, another former member of the British military and a director at ThruDark, followed Purja up Everest 24 hours later. Both of these ascents had the support of a team of experts, including the Sherpas Mingma and Jabu. Osprey's Aether Pro line builds on its regular Aether line. It can either be stripped to essentials or carried with its “full featured componentry.”
